It should have ended at 6 or 7 ( when Sam died) but then at the end they showed he was alive and the show hasn't been the same since then. If they ended then i would always consider it one of my favorites but now it's trash and they just milking it for cash. But that's just my opinion, I'm sure most of you like it since they're clearly making money. Maybe the latest seasons aren't that bad and i don't know because i haven't tried them but after the 7th season, i could only watch a few more episodes and then i couldn't continue.

I stopped watching on season 8. The show wasn't good since the end of season 5. And I personally like the monster of the week structure of the first two seasons the most.
